TRAINING

There are a variety of established methods of a PITBULL TRAINING, each with its adherents and critics. Some of the better known pitbull training procedures include the Koehler method, clicker training, motivational training, electronic training, model-rival training, dominance-based training, and relationship-based training. The common characteristics of successful methods are knowing the animal’s attributes and personality, accurate timing of reinforcement and/or punishment and consistent communication. The use of punishment is controversial with both the humaneness and effectiveness questioned by many behaviourists. You must teach your pitbull puppy words as well as routines. The most important words are “No” (which means “Stop whatever you’re doing”) and “Good” (which means “I like what you’re doing”).

HOW TO TRAIN A PITBULL

1. Manage your expectations and mood. Not every training day is going to be perfect, but don’t get frustrated and don’t take it out on your PITBULL. Adjust your own behavior and attitude to encourage your dog’s ability and confidence to learn. If you have a calm mood, generally your dog will, too. If the dog becomes afraid of your bad mood, he will not learn anything new. He’ll only learn to be wary and not trust you.Dog training classes on how to train a pitbull and a good trainer can help you improve your behavior which will translate to success with your pitbull training.

2. Give immediate rewards. Pitbulls don’t understand long-term cause and effects. They learn fast. You must praise or reward your dog within 2 seconds of a desired behavior to reinforce that behavior. If you wait too long, he will not associate the reward with the action you asked him to perform. Furthermore, you must make sure that your praise is fast enough to be accurate. Otherwise, you may reward behaviors that you don’t want.Imagine, for example, that you are teaching your dog the “sit” command. He sits for just a moment, but by the time you praise and reward him, he’s started standing back up. In this case, you are rewarding the standing behavior, not the sitting behavior.

You must teach your pitbull puppy words as well as routines. The most important words are “No” (which means “Stop whatever you’re doing”) and “Good” (which means “I like what you’re doing”).These praise and correction words should be started at 2-3 months of age.You must teach these words properly, with the right tone of voice and the right body language, or they won’t be of any help in teaching other words. If your pitbull puppy is older than 2-3 months and hasn’t learned “No” and “Good” flawlessly, you must start with those words before you can expect success with other word training.

PITBULL PUPPY TRAINING

First and foremost, train your new PITBULL PUPPY daily routines.
Rules of the House
Potty Routine
Feeding Routine
Exercise Routine
Bed time Routine

CRATE TRAINING (2-3 months)

Your puppy’s crate is his safe and secure den. Some people mistakenly refer to a crate as “doggie jail” but that is not the way Puppy will view his crate.Oh, at first he might be unhappy to have his movements curtailed, but it won’t be long at all before he goes into the crate on his own, to take a nap or just to get away from household activity. While crates are great housetraining aids, avoid crating your pitbull for longer than he can reasonably be expected to hold bladder/bowel movements. Generally, pit bull puppies can last one hour more than they are months old up until the age of 6 months. If you are gone all day at work and your puppy cannot hold it that long, you must either arrange for someone to take the puppy out mid-day or provide a safe spot until he is mature enough to control his elimination behaviors for the duration of your workday.

HOUSEBREAKING (2-3 months)

Pit Bull puppies that eat on a schedule eliminate on a schedule.Five to 30 minutes after your pitbull puppy eats, your puppy wants to defecate. So with a consistent eating schedule, and your attention to the clock, your pit bull puppy can maintain regular trips outside. If you catch your puppy in the act, interrupt not with yelling, a simple NO! generally works fine, take him immediately to the designated potty spot and reward when puppy finishes outside. Don’t take your pit bull puppy immediately back to his confinement area, which can actually read as punishment to him. Instead, wait for a 10-minute block of supervised play in a bigger area before putting him back in the crate. However, if your pitbull puppy does not eliminate outside, calmly place him back in his confinement area, wait 15 minutes and then try again outdoors.
